Not Everything Has to Be a Fight

Not Everything Has to Be a Fight

Dear Lord, this is a struggle for me. When I find something I’m passionate about, and I find very few things I am passionate about—good people and really narcissistic people, injustices, safety—those are the ones I can think of right now. I’ve been having more and more fights over those few things as politics enters the picture over those few things. Boundaries is another one that I am working on. My therapist asked me how I feel about cutting people off and how I decide the point is for cutting them off. To be honest, the more I do it, the freer I feel, but the more of an echo chamber I create, and I don’t want that in my life. Enough people have an echo chamber telling them everything they believe is the truth so they close their minds off to new ideas, and I want to always be learning the right things.

I’ve learned the wrong things in the past, and I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes, so I’m a little hesitant to take on new ideas. It’s like a puzzle I have to solve before it becomes a part of me. And then it seems to solidify. The hard part then becomes to put that into question the next time someone questions that. I always thought truth and lies as black and white, but it seems more like science and lies are black and white, but science itself keeps changing and learning, so even that keeps reshaping itself. Advocacy for things like feeding the poor, housing the homeless, and taking care of those who are in need shouldn’t be politicized. It should just be done. And it seems like nobody in D.C. is doing that anymore. So I seem to get in fights with everybody over politics unless I keep my mouth shut. They all speak of critical thinking, but most of us realize the system is just broken and needs rebuilt. We just don’t know how to do it.

Not everything has to be a fight. But I think a lot of us are becoming radicalized by the far left and the far right and by Trump. There’s another camp that just wants compromise. They want safety and security while still reaching out a helping hand. They want to be able to take care of the people inside the borders and be able to help people outside the borders. They don’t believe all outsiders bring crime, and that sometimes it’s worth helping the many. They want us to find a middle ground. Good Americans shouldn’t worry about putting America first, but about helping each other, and that’s not what’s happening. We’re dividing against each other.

It's not worth the fight. Let’s lay down our weapons against each other and pick up our weapons against the real enemies: the people trying to divide us. Let’s subscribe to unbiased news or subscribe to news from both sides of the aisle to get both biases. Trump is against the news and trying to make it his own, and Musk is trying to do the same. Let’s not let them! Let’s first get the facts. Then decide what to do with them. All I know is there has been a lot of safety issues, resignations, and world unrest since our election took place. It’s time to wake up. Things are not okay. Not everything is worth a fight. But it might almost be time for a real revolution.

How do you feel about all that’s happening in the world today?
